Why We Are Laying Siege At Okorocha's Residence - EFCC

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) says its operatives are laying siege to the Maitama house of a former governor of Imo State, Senator Rochas Okorocha, in order to effect his arrest.

It would be recalled that the agency deployed its operatives to surround the APC Presidential aspirant’s private residence in the capital city, Abuja.

The mission of the operatives couldn’t be immediately ascertained but the lawmaker while addressing journalists said he wondered why the security agents would hold him hostage and prevent him from participating in the screening of APC  presidential aspirants.

But reacting to the siege, the EFCC, in a statement by its spokesman, Wilson Uwujaren, said the move followed the alleged refusal of the former governor to honour several invitations extended to him after jumping the administrative bail earlier granted him by the commission.

Uwujaren recalled that the EFCC had on January 24, 2022 filed a 17-count charge bordering on diversion of public funds and properties to the tune of N2.9billion against Okorocha.

He said the case was assigned to Justice Inyang Ekwo of the Federal High Court, Abuja but attempts to arraign Okorocha were twice stalled owing to the absence of the ex-governor who evaded service of processes.

Wilson added, ”At the last adjourned date, March 28th, 2022, Justice Ekwo before adjourning until May 30th, 2022, had warned that it was ‘the last adjournment I shall grant in this matter.’

”In the circumstances, the Commission is left with no option but to effect the arrest of Senator Okorocha and bring him to trial.”

Delta Senator, Nwaoboshi Jailed Seven Years For Fraud

The Lagos Division of the Court of Appeal on Friday convicted and sentenced the Senator representing Delta North Senatorial District at the National Assembly, Peter Nwaoboshi, to seven years imprisonment. The court also ordered that the senator’s two companies, Golden Touch Construction Project Ltd and Suiming Electrical Ltd, be wound up in line with the provisions of Section 22 of the Money Laundering Prohibition Act 2021. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission said the the court’s ruling was delivered in an appeal challenging the judgment of Justice Chukwujekwu Aneke of the Federal High Court which on June 18, 2021, discharged and acquitted the defendants on two counts of fraud and money laundering. EFCC had arraigned the three defendants over the acquisition of a property named Guinea House, Marine Road, in Apapa, Lagos, for N805 million. I Never Attacked Obi - Ekweremadu

Former Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, says at no time did he attack the former governor of Anambra State and presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Mr. Peter Obi, asking the public to discountenance such reports as the work of mischief-makers, who deliberately twisted his innocuous statement out of context.
