Unvaccinated Civil Servants Barred From Entering Federal Secretariat

Punch newspaper reports that civil servants and the general public without proof of vaccination and negative PCR tests are currently being prevented from accessing government buildings in Abuja.

It would be recalled that the Boss Mustapha-led presidential steering committee on COVID-19 had announced in October that civil servants without proof of vaccination and negative PCR tests would not be allowed to access government buildings from December 1, 2021.

The Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria had however asked the Federal Government to extend till March next year, today’s deadline for the compulsory vaccination of civil servants, a move which the PSC had described as “impossible”.

Nigeria on Wednesday had also reported three cases of the Omicron variant of the coronavirus disease.

14-yr-old Ese Oruru regains freedom

Following a directive Monday afternoon by the Inspector General of Police to the Commissioner of Police, Kano State, Mohammed Katsina to liase with the State’s Emirate Council and relevant persons, the 14-year-old Ese Oruru was last night rescued from her abductor. Confirming the rescue in a telephone chat Monday, Force Public relations Officer, ACP Olabisi Kolawole disclosed that the Inspector General of Police has directed that Ese Oruru be giving protection adding that she will be flown to Abuja tomorrow (Tuesday to be re-united with her family. Already, it was gathered that the IGP has made arrangements to move the family to Abuja to re-unite with their daughter.

UNIBEN Officials Disown Claims of Cure for HIV

The University of Benin has disowned claims which has been widely circulated in the Nigerian media that its researchers have found a cure for HIV/AIDS. The refutal comes a day after one of its professors, Isaiah Ibeh, announced a new drug which he said was capable of wiping out the virus from a patient in 30 days.

I Never Attacked Obi - Ekweremadu

Former Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, says at no time did he attack the former governor of Anambra State and presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Mr. Peter Obi, asking the public to discountenance such reports as the work of mischief-makers, who deliberately twisted his innocuous statement out of context. In a statement signed by his media aide, Uche Anichukwu,  Ekweremadu said he had no reason whatsoever to attack Obi’s ambition, noting that they enjoyed good relationship as brothers and friends, who were both entitled to the political opinions and pursuits.   He was reacting to a news story, which he said that Ndigbo “would never vote for Peter Obi”, describing it as political mischief. Delta Senator, Nwaoboshi Jailed Seven Years For Fraud

The Lagos Division of the Court of Appeal on Friday convicted and sentenced the Senator representing Delta North Senatorial District at the National Assembly, Peter Nwaoboshi, to seven years imprisonment. The court also ordered that the senator’s two companies, Golden Touch Construction Project Ltd and Suiming Electrical Ltd, be wound up in line with the provisions of Section 22 of the Money Laundering Prohibition Act 2021. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission said the the court’s ruling was delivered in an appeal challenging the judgment of Justice Chukwujekwu Aneke of the Federal High Court which on June 18, 2021, discharged and acquitted the defendants on two counts of fraud and money laundering. EFCC had arraigned the three defendants over the acquisition of a property named Guinea House, Marine Road, in Apapa, Lagos, for N805 million.
