A young Nigerian lady has fallen victim of another mob action barely two weeks after the gruesome murder of four students of the University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT) in Umuokiri, Aluu Community, Rivers State. The Sun newspaper reports that the lady, who was accused of stealing a phone, was shamefully assaulted in the video clip, which has gone viral on the internet. The incident took place at an upscale shopping mall in Lagos.
Following a directive Monday afternoon by the Inspector General of Police to the Commissioner of Police, Kano State, Mohammed Katsina to liase with the State’s Emirate Council and relevant persons, the 14-year-old Ese Oruru was last night rescued from her abductor. Confirming the rescue in a telephone chat Monday, Force Public relations Officer, ACP Olabisi Kolawole disclosed that the Inspector General of Police has directed that Ese Oruru be giving protection adding that she will be flown to Abuja tomorrow (Tuesday to be re-united with her family. The University of Benin has disowned claims which has been widely circulated in the Nigerian media that its researchers have found a cure for HIV/AIDS. The refutal comes a day after one of its professors, Isaiah Ibeh, announced a new drug which he said was capable of wiping out the virus from a patient in 30 days.
The International Press Centre (IPC), Lagos–Nigeria has condemned the assault on journalist, Leftist Aimeuaewonso, who received slaps and punches from a member of the Edo State House of Assembly, Ephraim Aluebhosele when he questioned him on action being taken to fix an abandoned road in his constituency . IPC in statement said reports reaching it's Safety Alert Desk states that, the journalist sustained varying degrees of injury after the assault by the lawmaker and some of his aides. The statement signed by Melody Lawal, P ress Freedom Officer at IPC, said the organization is of the firm opinion that the lawmaker had no legal right to beat up Aimeuaewonso notwithstanding the situation, as the act was very condescending for a duty bearer who has the responsibility to give account to the citizens who voted him into governance.
