Police Detain Officer Over Fatal Gunshot in Abuja

The Police Command in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) says it has arrested and detained the policeman responsible for the gunshot that killed one Solomon Eze, 52, in Karimo area of Abuja.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the FCT, DSP Anjuguri Manzah, disclosed this in a statement on Monday in Abuja.
He said the Commissioner of Police (CP) in charge of the command, Mr Bala Ciroma, had ordered investigation into the incident.
Manzah said the CP commiserated with the family and friends of the deceased.
He pledged to ensure transparency in the investigation and added that the findings would be made public.

Meanwhile there was a violent protest in the Karmo area of Abuja on Monday following the killing. Angry residents of the area reportedly stoned an Assistant Commissioner of Police and Abuja Municipal Area Council officials who visited the community to pacify the people.
Some youths were also said to have attempted to burn down the police post in the community. It was gathered that the police were at Karmo to arrest some suspects in connection with an investigation when some people attempted to stop them from taking the suspects away.
A policeman reportedly fired in the air and the deceased was hit by a bullet.
