APC Can Survive Beyond 2023 If... - Okorocha

The Senator representing Imo West Senatorial District, Owelle Rochas Okorocha has advocated for obedience to the Constitution of the All Progressives Congress and adherence to the principles of fairness and transparency in the running of the affairs of the party, as the only way to ensure that the APC survives beyond the era of President Muhammadu Buhari.

Okorocha, who is one of the founding fathers of the All Progressives Congress and a key national leader of the Party, while speaking with a group of journalists in his Unity House office Abuja argued that the APC gained primarily from President Muhammadu Buhari's reputation among Nigerians, and for the Party to remain strong after his exit in 2023, steps need to be taken to ensure that the Party remains afloat.

According to him; "President Buhari is the face of the APC, and we owe most of our victories to his popularity. However, the President will not always be on the ballot to drive the Party to victory, so we must plan for the days ahead and strengthen the Party for the future."

"One of the ways to do that is by adhering to the principles of fairness and transparency. We must be guided by the laws of Nigeria and the Constitution of our Party. We must give the people, the grassroots, prominence in our decisions. We cannot sustain this Party when a few people could sit down in Abuja and take decisions on who will fly the Party's flags for electoral positions in Zamfara, without the input of the grassroots members of the Party. We cannot run a one man Party or a one clique Party. We must run a Party of the people, where the people are the kings, and that is actually the philosophy upon which the APC was originally conceived."

He praised President Muhammadu Buhari for his efforts in ensuring that the Party remains strong and formidable beyond 2023, and described him as a selfless father of the Party who considers the interest of the nation and that of the Party paramount.

"President Buhari has made enormous sacrifices for this Party and it will be disrespectful to him, if some individuals within the Party continue to disregard his directive for peace, total reconciliation, fairness and justice."
