How Security Operatives, INEC Officials, Compromised 2019 Election Results – Report

A post mortem analysis of the 2019 general elections has documented how the collation process of the election results by INEC was opaque, chaotic, vulnerable to manipulation and, in some locations, violently disrupted.The report, dated July 2019, and made public Thursday by the Centre for Democracy and Development (CDD), also graphically depicted that five states – Lagos, Osun, Kaduna, Rivers and Sokoto – experienced significant problems with the ward level collation. The CDD relied on reports from its observers deployed across the country during the elections. The report also identified six challenges which plagued the collation of results of the 2019 election as INEC missteps and misconduct; deliberate denial of access to observers and media; logistical shortfalls; intentional disruption by politicians, political thugs and party agents; and intimidation of collation staff by security agents. Bello Wins APC Ticket for Kogi Governorship

Governor Yahaya Bello has won the ticket of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the November 16 governorship election in Kogi state. Bello polled 3,091 votes during the party’s primary held on Thursday at the Lokoja Confluence Stadium to emerge the flag bearer. The chairman of the Electoral Committee for the primary election and governor of Jigawa state, Mohammed Abubakar Badaru, declared Bello winner at the end of the exercise. According to him, there was total of 3,838 delegates while 3,596 were accredited for the election. He said a total of 54 votes were invalid. According to the result declared, Bar. Babatunde Ayokunle Irukera polled 109 votes to emerge second position. Other results declared indicates that Hassan Abdullahi polled 44 votes; Yahaya Odidi Audu, 10; Hadiza Iyoma Ibrahim, 0; Sani Lulu Abdullahi, 7; Engr Abubakar Bashir, 3; Danladi Umar Mohammed, 0; Ekele Aishat Blessing, 0 and Yakubu Mohammed, 0.

Court Refuses To Grant Sowore’s Application Challenging Detention By DSS

The Federal High Court, Abuja, on Wednesday, refused to grant the motion filed by Mr Omoyele Sowore, Convener, #RevolutionNow protests, challenging his detention for 45 days by the Department of State Security (DSS). Justice Nkeonye Maya, who declined all applications by Counsel to Sowore, Mr Femi Falana, SAN, sent the case back to Justice Taiwo Taiwo for further hearing. Falana, who had asked the court to set aside the exparte order granted by Justice Taiwo, also applied for oral bail when Justice Maha rejected the earlier application. Sowore who is presently in detention had, on August 9, approached the court, seeking an order to vacate the ex parte order that gave the DSS the legal backing to detain him for 45 days. It would be recalled that Justice Taiwo Taiwo had, in a ruling on August. 8 in an exparte application, ordered Sowore’s detention for the said period to enable the DSS carry out and conclude its investigation on allegations levied against him. President Muhammadu Buhari has terminated the appointment of Tor Uja as the executive secretary of the Nigerian Christian Pilgrim Commission (NCPC). Willie Bassey, director of information at the office of the secretary to the government of the federation, announced this in a statement on Tuesday. He said the disengagement is in line with the provision of section 4, sub-section 3 of the Nigerian Christian Pilgrim Commission Act. “Rev. List of 77 Nigerians Charged by FBI For Massive Fraud in America

A 252-count federal grand jury indictment unsealed Thursday charged 77 Nigerian nationals with participating in a massive conspiracy to steal millions of dollars through a variety of fraud schemes and launder the funds through a Los Angeles-based money laundering network as uncovered by the FBI. The indictment was unsealed after law enforcement authorities, led by the FBI, Thursday morning arrested 14 defendants across the United States, with 11 of those arrests taking place in the Los Angeles region. Two defendants were already in federal custody on other charges, and one was arrested earlier this week. The remaining defendants are believed to be abroad, with most of them located in Nigeria. The indictment alleges that the defendants and others used various online fraud schemes – including business email compromise (BEC) frauds, romance scams, and schemes targeting the elderly – to defraud victims out of millions of dollars. Breaking: Tribunal Nullifies Election of Dino Melaye as Kogi West Senator

The Kogi State National Assembly/State Assembly Election Petition Tribunal has quashed the victory of Senator Dino Melaye representing Kogi West Senatorial district. Melaye (PDP) was declared winner in the February election by INEC, but Senator Smart Adeyemi (APC) approached the tribunal, challenging INEC’s declaration citing, irregularities, over voting and non compliance with the electoral acts. The three man panel led by Justice A. O. Chijioke in a unanimous judgment on Friday accepted Adeyemi’s ground and order for reelection into the senatorial axis.

Nigerians To Pay More For Electricity Consumption

The Federal Government through the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission has increased the tariff payable by power consumers across the country. Findings from various documents obtained from the NERC on Wednesday in Abuja showed that beginning from next year, power consumers will have to pay an additional sum of between N8 and N14 for every kilowatt - hour of energy provided by their respective distribution companies. The NERC also revealed the actual cost reflective tariff for each of the 11 power distribution companies operating in Nigeria. The government disclosed the cost reflective tariff of each of the Discos in separate documents for each particular distributor in a regulatory instrument cited as ‘The 2016- 2018 Minor Review of Multi- Year Tariff Order 2015 and Minimum Remittance Order for the Year 2019’. EFCC Raids Ambode’s Home in Epe

Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on Tuesday morning raided the home of the former governor of Lagos State, Akinwunmi Ambode in Epe area of Lagos. A top aide of the former governor, who spoke on the condition of anonymity , confirmed that EFCC operatives raided Ambode ’s home. He revealed that Ambode was not in the country and the home had been raided in his absence. The commission’s spokesman, Mr Tony Orilade, was quoted as telling the Punch newspaper that the operatives were in Ambode ’s house as part of investigations. The Chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, Abike Dabiri-Erewa has condemned in its entirety, the attack on the former deputy senate president and current serving senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator Ike Ekweremadu at the 2nd Annual Igbo Cultural Festival held in Nuremberg, Germany. Senator Ekweremadu who was attending as a speaker/special guest of honor at the event organized by the Ndi-igbo Germany community was reportedly beaten up and egged publicly. Some members of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra, IPOB, in Nuremberg, Germany, today attacked the former Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ike Ekweremadu.
