VIDEO: Nigerian Police Kill Unarmed Civilian

Image
The police have been accused of shooting an unarmed civilian dead. An amateur video being circulated on Twitter and Facebook shows two armed police officers dragging an unarmed young man through the street, before firing at him at close range. The man fell down on the floor and appeared to have died instantly. A male voice, apparently from those who did the secret recording, could be heard saying in Pidgin English, “Dem finish-am (they have killed him)”. “Jesus!” another voice, a female, is heard whispering, out of shock, apparently. From the video, it appears the victim wanted to run away before the officers shot him dead. The nature of the victim’s crime and his identity, as well as that of the officers, is unknown for now. About four other young men are seen in the video lying down on the floor, with the officers pointing rifles at them. It is not clear when the incident happened. NLC Rejects N27,000 Minimum Wage

Image
The Nigeria Labour Congress has rejected the N27,000 new national minimum wage adopted by the National Council of States on Tuesday. The NLC Secretary-General, Dr. Peter Ozo-Eson, made this known to the News Agency of Nigeria in Abuja. According to him, the council has no jurisdiction determining another amount after a Tripartite Committee had submitted its report. “It is abysmal of government to be delaying the submission of an Executive Bill to the National Assembly and by wrongfully adopting N27,000 through the council of states,” he said. However, Ozo-Eson said the NLC has scheduled an emergency National Executive Council meeting for Friday to weigh on the deadline given to government within which to submit an executive bill to the National Assembly. The NLC scribe added that the Federal Government was only projecting a shutdown of the economy with its latest action. “This is because workers should not be held responsible for any development after its NEC meeting on Friday,’’ he

Image

Keyamo in a statement titled ‘WHY PRESIDENT MUHAMMADU BUHARI DID NOT ATTEND THE PRESIDENTIAL DEBATE ORGANISED BY THE NIGERIA ELECTION DEBATE GROUP AND THE BROADCASTING ORGANISATIONS OF NIGERIA’ said that: ‘it should now be obvious to Nigerians that for Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and the PDP, this election is all about attacking the person and programmes of Mr. President and not about proffering their own solutions to the problems they created during their sixteen years of misrule, maladministration and looting of the nation’s resources.  When they cannot see President Buhari to attack, the content of their campaign becomes hollow, empty and “full of sound and fury, signifying nothing”. Now that Atiku Abubakar had a unique opportunity

Universities in Nigeria have been on lockdown since November 4, 2018 when ASUU declared at its National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held at the Federal University of Technology, Akure, that a strike action was inevitable as the government had failed in fulfilling its promise in the 2009 agreement. Kelly, the R&B star accused of decades of misconduct, after weeks of protests and a television documentary series that drew national attention, according to a person briefed on the move who declined to be identified because the company’s agreement with the singer was confidential. Kelly, once one of the biggest and most influential stars in pop music, has been dogged by accusations of sexual misconduct since the mid 1990s, when he was sued by women who said that he had engaged in sexual activity with them when they were as young as 15. In 2002, he was charged with 21 counts of child pornography over a videotape that prosecutors alleged showed him having sex with a 14-year-old girl. The last hearing came up in November last year after which the case was adjourned till 31 January 2019. But a shocked Kanu, who was in London for the Yuletide, learnt from relatives and business associates in Nigeria last week that the Apartments, with registration number 509102, had been occupied by some authorized persons who had also commenced renovation of the facility in disregard of the seal order and litigation, forcing him to arrive in Nigeria over the wee
