Leah Sharibu Still In Captivity – Family Friends

Contrary to claims that Leah Sharibu has been released from the captivity of Boko Haram and “is being kept somewhere in Jos”, the teenager is still in the den of her captors, a friend of her mother and senior lecturer in the Department of Political Science, University of Jos, Dr. Gloria Samdi Puldu, has stated.
The Executive Secretary, Nigeria National Missions Movement, Rev. Gideon Para -Mallam, who has been one of the voices championing her release, also described the report by some Online Media as false.
Leah Sharibu was one of the 110 female students of Government Girls ’ Science and Technical College, Dapchi, Yobe State, who had been held in captivity since February 19, 2018 by Boko Haram terrorists on account of her Christian faith.
There were rumours on Thursday on the social media that Leah Sharibu had been released and is being kept at the Headquarters of Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA) in Jos.
But speaking with a Punch newspaper correspondent on Friday morning, Samdi Puldu said there was no truth in the claims that Leah had been released.
“Just forget about them, it’s not true, there is nothing like that; ignore them, it is all rumours, that is all. I think the speculation came into effect because of the assurance by President Muhammadu Buhari after he has spoken with her mother that Leah Sharibu will be released soon. We should just keep praying that it becomes true; that is all ”, the UNIJOS don stated.
Para - Mallam in a statement also described as “wild and misleading” the reports that Leah Sharibu has been released.
He said, “It has come to our notice that some groups and individuals have been spreading the false news that Leah Sharibu has been released and currently in Jos. For the avoidance of doubt, I hereby wish to categorically state that Leah Sharibu has not yet been released. Our consistent hope and prayer is that she should be released as soon as possible.
“I ’m issuing this statement as a very close friend of the Sharibu family who has been and is still in very close contact with them, that as at this morning (8 : 00 am Friday, October 5 2018) , these wild and misleading reports about her release are false and should be disregarded. Please let us continue to pray for Leah and her release, her family and Nigeria as a whole. Thank you and God bless.”
Seven months after the abduction of her daughter by Boko Haram insurgents, Rebecca Sharibu recently broke down as she recalled the October deadline given to the Federal Government of Nigeria to act to save Leah Sharibu’s life.
