Labour Appeals For Relief Materials For Poverty Stricken Kogi Workers

The Nigeria Labour Congress NLC has appealed to well meaning Nigerians to come to the aid of workers in Kogi State with relief materials following the failure of the state government to pay salaries and pensions ranging from five to twenty one months.

Addressing newsmen in Abuja while receiving the report of an ad-hoc committee on restructuring and devolution of powers, NLC President Ayuba Wabba said workers in Kogi state are committing suicide and dying in their numbers due to inability to take care of their immediate and health needs.
He added that organized labour and its allies have begun mobilization for a mass protest in the state to demand an end to what he described as the anti labour activities of the state government under the leadership of Governor Yahaya Bello.

Wabba also said workers will resist the recent pronouncement by the Federal Government that it will begin to implement a segment of labour laws on no work no pay in the case of any workers union that decides to go on strike.
It would be recalled that the NLC had in August 2017 after its annual colloquium, set up a committee to harmonize the position of Congress on the issues of restructuring and devolution of powers.
The report will be made public after its ratification by the central working committee and the National Executive Council of Congress.
